Recording My Trips with Art

Recording My Trips – April 5

So many lovely people have expressed an interest in my travels. I want to share what I see and experience as I go. I will blog here of course and probably make bad reels for Instagram…lol… but I also wanted to do something that was a little bit different and uniquely me.

I bought a small art journal and started scribbling. Here is the first cover I made:

I wanted to capture the fun and adventurous spirit needed to travel. I squeezed in the van with myself, Bandit and Stella and all manner of things I thought reflected what I might experience on my trip.

It’s cool and I had a lot of fun, but as most images are displayed horizontally, it doesn’t really work on most platforms. So, I did this one…

This is the right way and showcases my new love of sunflowers. I have bought so many sunflower-themed items for my van. They really cheer me up. I threw a dog paw into this drawing for good luck and the van, too, of course.

I like this but it’s not perfect. I’m not really going to fuss too much about it or the other one. I would rather concentrate on capturing my experiences from now on.

After my first trip in March to Reeves Beach – see the post here – I drew this.

Reeves Beach Victoria March 2, 2024

I tried to capture everything I loved and perhaps didn’t love about this trip. We saw Starlink, which was breathtaking and extraordinary. The beach was beautiful despite the creepy things poking up out of the sand (see image below).

There was a 5km drive into the area on the roughest road I’ve ever driven on and of course, the long-drop dunny! Phew! What a smell! You can read more details here.

Despite the method of drawing, it took some time. I wonder if I’ll have time to do one each time I stop. I’ll certainly try and learn to work a faster.

I didn’t plan it out this drawing. I went straight to work with the marker. I wanted to capture what came to me and what had the most impact. For traveling, I have decided to use coloured pencils because they are easy to carry and don’t need water. I can grab them quickly and start drawing. But, I have packed a small watercolour kit – you never know 🙂

I hope everyone who is following my adventures likes my drawings, and they capture the spirit of my adventures and make them smile.

Now, for this creepy thing! It’s in the drawing titled, “Dead Man’s Hand”, but if it’s not that – what is it??!!
