From Seeds to Wisdom: Celebrating 1,000 Moments of Mindful Arts Therapy

When I first began Mindful Arts Therapy, it started as a quiet whisper—an intention planted gently in the soil of hope. I was working parttime and I was taking a break in a café. I stumbled through books and was researching an idea. How could I use the combination of mindfulness and arts therapy to help others?

Sitting over a cup of coffee, I came up with the name – Mindful Arts Therapy, deciding to go with ‘arts’ so I could encompass every modality under one umbrella.

I didn’t know how it would bloom or where it would lead, only that creativity and compassion could hold space for healing. That intention has grown—day by day, brushstroke by brushstroke—into a vibrant community of seekers, feelers, creators, and healers.

Today, I’m celebrating my 1,000th post on Instagram

That’s 1,000 tiny windows into the world of emotional expression.
1,000 touchpoints for creativity to meet anxiety, resilience, and joy.
1,000 moments where art whispered, “You’re not alone.”

Each scribble, quote, messy canvas, and carousel taught me something—not only about mindfulness and emotional resilience, but about connection. What began as a solo journey soon became a shared experience. Your stories, reflections, and quiet courage have shaped this space more than words could ever convey.

So today, I’m pausing to honor the wisdom that’s grown from these seeds.

In my celebratory carousel on Instagram, I’m sharing 10 insights that have been etched into this journey—each one a reminder to slow down, tune in, and let your inner world breathe through creativity. You can check out my Instagram post here.

The Quiet Start

  1. A blank page and a big heart

That’s where Mindful Arts Therapy began. I learned that healing doesn’t need

 2. When Scribbles Spoke Louder Than Words

A simple scribble held more emotion than any journal entry.

That’s when I realized: expression doesn’t have to be polished to be powerful.

3. Making Tools for the Time-Poor Soul

Creating a resource that someone could use in five quiet minutes reminded me how small actions build resilience. Simplicity is sacred.

4. A Message from a Mother

She said, “This activity helped me breathe while my child melted down.” That one sentence became my mission statement.

5. The “Not Good at Art” Breakthrough

A client who said she wasn’t creative cried over her own collage. That’s when I knew: art therapy isn’t about being an artist—it’s about being honest.

6. When a Post Became a Pause Button

One comment read, “I didn’t scroll past this—I stopped. I needed that.” It reminded me how healing can meet us mid-scroll.

7. Reclaiming Emotion Through Color

Watching someone choose red for joy and blue for grief flipped the color wheel and opened new conversations on emotional freedom.

8. The First International Download

I saw someone in Ireland download one of my art therapy books. That moment whispered: your artfulness travels—your heart can, too.

9. A Journal Page That Became a Mirror

A user told me their journal response made them cry—not because they were sad, but because they finally felt seen. That’s artful connection.

10. Post #1,000 and Still Strong

If there’s one thing these 1,000 moments have taught me: gentleness isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom that’s been tested.

What I’ve learned from others

Over the past two and half years, I’ve learned that healing doesn’t exist in isolation—it’s cultivated through connection. From fellow therapists to the women and neurodivergent individuals I’ve had the honor of working with, each person has offered me a new lens through which to view emotional resilience.

I’ve seen how courage can look quiet, like showing up for a session even when the words are hard to find, and how creativity often emerges from the most tender parts of ourselves. These moments have deepened my understanding of how safe spaces and gentle expression invite transformation.

One of the most powerful lessons I’ve embraced is that art doesn’t need to be perfect to be profound. Through shared journaling, messy brushstrokes, and broken phrases that found wholeness in rhythm, I’ve witnessed countless stories where meaning unfolded in unexpected places.

Others have taught me the strength of vulnerability—the way it can soften resistance, invite trust, and turn creative tools into bridges for deep inner work. I’ve seen symbols become shields, colors become language, and affirmations become anchors.

And perhaps most humbling of all, I’ve learned that mindfulness isn’t just a practice—it’s a way of showing up for others. Those who’ve walked beside me have reminded me to stay curious, to listen deeply, and to keep refining how I make therapeutic practices accessible. I’ve become a better coach by witnessing the quiet bravery in others, and I carry those lessons into every book, session, workshop, and sketch I create. These relationships have taught me that healing flows both ways—and I’ll never stop being a student of the human spirit.

Three Lessons of Bravery

Lesson 1: Accessible Healing Is Powerful Healing

Not everyone speaks the language of traditional therapy, but creativity offers a universal dialect. I’ve learned that simplifying emotional tools—not diluting them—makes healing more inclusive, especially for women, neurodivergent communities, and those who feel unseen in conventional spaces. Accessibility is not just a design choice—it’s an act of compassion.

Lesson 2: Milestones Are Mirrors, Not Markers

Every “achievement”—whether it’s a post, a workshop, or a page in my book—reflects something deeper: growth, struggle, community, courage. I’ve come to see milestones not as endpoints, but as mirrors for reflection. Sharing them invites others to pause, celebrate, and reconnect with their own journey.

Lesson 3: Structure Can Hold Emotion Gently

Whether it’s a carousel post or a shield template, I’ve discovered that thoughtful structure—icons, layout, rhythm—doesn’t restrict emotion, it supports it. When tools are clear and visually calm, users feel safe enough to explore messy inner worlds. Design can be both therapeutic and empowering.

Five Important Concepts I’ll Never Forget

  • 🎨 Expression is powerful, even when it’s imperfect
  • 🌀 Healing doesn’t ask for perfection—it asks for presence
  • 🧠 There’s courage in telling your story, even in brushstrokes
  • 🌿 Boundaries are beautiful. So is saying “no”
  • 🌈 Emotions don’t need fixing—they need witnessing

These concepts have walked beside me, page after page, post after post. And they continue to evolve with every shared breath and brave creation.

To those who’ve traveled alongside me—thank you. You are woven into every affirmation, every therapeutic tool, every breakthrough that’s come to life in this space. This isn’t just my celebration—it’s ours. 💕

Here’s to the next 1,000 moments. May they keep reminding us that healing is possible, creativity is enough, and self-expression is sacred.

With endless gratitude,
